How to Get Married in the Oregon Coast

Even though you’re here to get rid of some of the stress of planning a wedding, there are some things you have to do to elope in the Oregon Coast. My first recommendation is to find an Oregon Coast elopement photographer (that’s me!) to help you find the best location, best time of year to get married, and figure out permitting for your wedding and lodging. Good news here: as your (hopefully) elopement photographer, I will actually do ALL of it for you! So all you’ll have to do is set a date and place, then let me take it from there. Seriously!

But to get to the nitty and gritty details, you’ll need an Oregon marriage license (valid for 60 days), 2 witnesses, and an officiant. A wedding permit may be needed depending on guest count.

Best Places to Elope in the Oregon Coast

From secluded coves to majestic state parks, the Oregon Coast offers a wide array of stunning locations for your elopement. Here are a few popular spots to consider:
1. Cannon Beach: Famous for its iconic Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach boasts miles of sandy shores and stunning ocean views that will take your breath away.
2. Yachats: This charming coastal town is known for its rocky coastlines, tide pools, and stunning vistas. Yachats is perfect for couples seeking a more intimate and secluded elopement experience.
3. Cape Kiwanda: Located in Pacific City, Cape Kiwanda offers rugged cliffs, golden dunes, and stunning Pacific Ocean views. It is an ideal location for adventurous couples.

4. Ecola State Park: From the iconic sight of Tillamook Rock Lighthouse to the hidden coves and tide pools, every corner of this park is filled with awe-inspiring natural wonders.

5. Secret Beach: One of my favorite locations to shoot elopements in! It’s no secret this place is amazing! This area is located in Brookings, Oregon, close to California. In fact, you can have both the Redwoods and the Oregon coast for your elopement!
Remember to research the specific permits and regulations for your chosen location and ensure you have permission to hold your elopement ceremony there.

Best Time to Elope in the Oregon Coast

The Oregon Coast experiences a mild and temperate climate, but it's essential to consider the weather patterns when planning your elopement. Here's a breakdown of the seasons:
1. Summer (June to August): Summer brings warmer temperatures, less rain, more sunshine but is the busiest tourist season. Be prepared for larger crowds during this time, especially on weekends. My advise is to elope during the weekday and choose sunset!
2. Fall (September to November): Fall offers cooler temperatures, stunning foliage, and smaller crowds. It's a great choice if you prefer a more intimate and romantic elopement.
3. Winter (December to February): Winter brings cooler and wetter weather, but it also offers a sense of tranquility and stunning storm-watching opportunities. Plan for umbrellas and some moody lighting!
4. Spring (March to May): Spring showcases blooming wildflowers, milder temperatures, and fewer crowds. It's a fantastic time to elope if you're seeking a vibrant and colorful backdrop.

Hiring Vendors for your Oregon Coast Elopement

Planning an elopement involves hiring a team of experienced vendors who can bring your vision to life. Here are a few professionals you may want to consider:
1. Photographer: Capture the moments and memories of your special day with a skilled elopement photographer who knows how to navigate the Oregon Coast's unique landscapes (wink, wink, that’s me!)
2. Officiant: Choose an officiant who can customize your ceremony and make it personal to you as a couple. They will be able to guide you through the legal requirements as well. Keep in mind that many elopement photographers such as myself are ordained and can officiate your wedding as well.
3. Florist: Enhance the natural beauty of the Oregon Coast with locally sourced flowers and stunning arrangements. Reach out to hear who my favorite local vendors are!
4. Hair and Makeup Artists: Look your best for your elopement by hiring professionals who specialize in creating natural and effortless bridal looks that withstand coastal winds. Again, I will help you with getting everything from the perfect lodging spot, to florals, and even hair and make up artists so you won’t have to worry about a thing.
